British Man Injured In Tobago Shark Attack

BBC Airs 'Why Sharks Attack' Documentary

British Man Injured in Tobago Shark Attack

A 64-year-old British man was injured in a shark attack in Tobago on Tuesday, August 23. The man was swimming approximately 10 meters offshore when he was bitten on the leg. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

Shark Attacks on the Rise

The Tobago attack is the latest in a series of shark attacks that have occurred around the world in recent months. In the United States, there have been seven fatal shark attacks in 2023, the highest number in a single year since 2015. Experts say that the increase in shark attacks is likely due to a combination of factors, including warmer water temperatures, increased human activity in the ocean, and the recovery of shark populations.

To learn more about shark attacks and how to avoid them, join shark scientist Kristian Parton as he reviews the BBC - Why Sharks. The documentary airs tonight at 8 pm EST.
